Bench Reveals

A Great Day in Shotley Unveiling Our 108/109th Bench.

Legend on the Bench Charity proudly revealed two Suicide Prevention Benches in Shotley, Ipswich today, April 9th 2026.

The first bench, located at Shotley Village Hall, saw a fantastic turnout from the local community. As always the Unveiling was very special and brought goosebumps to your body

In an incredible display of community spirit, the people of Shotley raised in excess of £4,000 in just 81 days to fund both benches, placing them at opposite ends of the village.

The second, at Shotley Gate, sits in an absolutely beautiful location, and once again, the support from attendees was truly overwhelming. The Unveiling  once again was just so special, and in amidst the beauty of the surroundings it was being placed in, the Bench was simply amazing.

This amazing effort was led by dedicated fundraisers Shaun Sams, Connor Sams, and Derek Davis, whose effort dedication and commitment was amazing. Thank you Guys, it takes special people to support others despite having their own problems.

The unveiling was also attended by Sandra, who, just two weeks earlier, had installed one of our benches in memory of her dad in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Sandra has also been a valued supporter of the team’s fundraising events, making her presence on the day especially meaningful.

Also great to see Kevin Honey in attendance, so often he turns up to our reveals, his support is very much appreciated, thank you Kevin.

A wide range of events helped reach the target, including a 77-mile walk around the Shotley Peninsula, a chessathon, a music quiz, raffles (including one from the Cocker family’s Carol Service), quizzes at The Shotley Rose and Monimar, and an auction of a signed Ipswich Town football team shirt. Special thanks go to Cathy and Colin Izzard, Adam Tanner, and former player Matty Holland for their support. Thank You All.

Additional contributions came from community grant awards from two Babergh councillors, as well as support from Shotley Parish Council. We very much appreciate your support and commitment to this cause, Thank You.

We are also grateful to the Shotley Village Hall Committee, for granting permission to install the first bench on their land. A beautiful location for our Bench to sit, offering hope to the community. Thank You.

Also thank you so much to the committee of Shotley Marina, for granting us the permission to install our second Bench on their land, the most beautiful of locations. Your support is very welcome and much appreciated.

So many people contributed in their own way, but a special mention goes to Shotley Rose landlady Sarah Pallant and her partner Jamie Barwick, who kindly provided complimentary refreshments at the pub following the reveal. Thank you both, your kindness is very much appreciated.

This project is a powerful reminder of what a community can achieve when it comes together for such an important cause. Special people achieving special things.
