Monday 26th February was an emotional day for all those who attended the unveiling of the first Legend Bench in Bullfields Park, Sawbrigeworth, in memory of Jay Lee Mead, the inspiration behind the formation of this charity.
Parents Lee and Michelle, accompanied by family members including brother Micky Hazard invited anyone to attend and the turnout was amazing. Football legends, Ossie Ardiles, Pat Jennings, David Howells and Brian Stein, were joined by East 17's, Tony Mortimer - who lost his own brother to suicide and was the inspiration for the band's hit, Stay Another Day.
After a few speeches from Micky, Lee and Mayor Cllr Ruth Buckmaster, the family lifted the cover on the solid oak bench, designed and built by Branson Leisure.
There are contact numbers for support organistations on the two plaques, plus a QR code with a direct link to the specialist support information on the Legend on the Bench website. Also included is a second QR code, kindly donated by Timeless Tribute, which links to pictures, music and video clips celebrating Jay's life.
The bench now sits proudly in the park Jay used to visit, and is a beacon of light and hope to those in need, lighting up the message "Someone is always listening" once the sun lights begins to fade away
