Gants Hill Bench Reveal--52
Yesterday, September 27th, marked a significant and emotional milestone for Legend on the Bench as we installed our 52nd Suicide Prevention Bench.
This bench was placed in memory of Leighann Bassett who tragically took her own life. The day was organised by Leighann’s daughter Lily and was a day of deep sadness, reflection, and remembrance. Lily, who has been a part of our extended family for many years as the long-term girlfriend of Jay’s brother Louis, showed immense strength and grace.
A heartfelt thank you to Lee Mead (Jay’s father), who spoke so beautifully and from the heart, paying a moving tribute to Leighann. His words truly resonated with everyone present and served as a reminder of the fragility of life. Thank you Lee.
The day as requested was very much a private affair attended by family and friends. Legend on the Bench would like to extend our deepest gratitude and sympathies to Mark Bassett, Leighann’s husband, who spoke with incredible strength and character as he honoured his wife’s memory. His courage and openness touched us all and will inspire us to keep striving in our mission to install our Benches in every park and open space in the UK. Life matters, everyone matters.
We continue this work not only to raise awareness and offer support, but to honour the lives of those we’ve lost, and to stand in solidarity with those who are still fighting silent battles every day.
Each bench we place is more than just a memorial, it’s a beacon of hope. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to talk, to sit, to pause, and to reach out. Whether you are grieving, struggling, supporting someone, or simply taking a moment to reflect, these benches are here for you.
You are not alone. You are seen. You are loved. And you matter. 💛
