Clacton Lions--Bench Number 82
On a cold bright Sunny day in Clacton, the sound of friendly chatter and shared purpose filled the air as Legend on the Bench Charity gathered to install and reveal its 82nd Suicide Prevention Bench. What began as a simple idea to install Suicide Prevention Benches in Parks and open spaces has grown into a very powerful movement, and this latest bench marked another meaningful milestone.
The turnout on the day was truly uplifting, Local residents, supporters, and volunteers came together, showing just how much this cause means to the town. Standing proudly among them were the Clacton Lions, out in force and offering their support in great numbers. Their presence brought energy, warmth, and a strong sense of unity, reminding everyone that community action can make a real difference.
As the bench was unveiled, there was a moment of calm reflection. This wasn’t just a bench, it was a symbol, a place to pause, to breathe, and to remember that help, hope, and kindness are always close by. Speakers shared words about connection, listening, and looking out for one another, reinforcing the message that no one has to face hard times alone.
Laughter, conversation, and quiet moments of thought blended together as people gathered around the new bench, reading its message and taking in what it represents. Thanks to the continued dedication of Legend on the Bench Charity, and the incredible backing of groups like the CLACTON Lions, Clacton now has another lasting reminder of compassion and community care.
A massive thank you to Clacton Lions for their unwavering support and fundraising efforts. A special thank you goes to Stephen Brown and the team, whose hard work made it possible for this bench to be installed.
We would also like to thank Anne Oxley, Councillor for Tendring, who played an important role alongside Stephen and the Clacton Lions throughout the process. Councillor Daniel Land also attended the reveal, adding further support to what was already a well-attended and meaningful occasion.
We were honoured by the presence of Lion Chris Speed, District Governor, along with Rob Suttling, President of the Rotary Club.
A massive thank you to each and every one of you for your support and commitment.
With 82 benches now installed, the journey continues, one bench, one conversation, and one community at a time. We are helping bring awareness to Mental Health and the stigma surrounding it, while at the same time we are saving lives.
