Legend on the Bench are very proud to announce the installation and unveiling of our Suicide Prevention Bench in Portmarnock, Dublin, on 13 December 2025.

Despite the unpredictable weather, the turnout on the day was excellent. As always, the unveiling was a very special occasion, and Minister for Transport, Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien TD, had the honour of cutting the ribbon to officially open the third Legend on the Bench in Ireland at Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre (PSLC).

Among those in attendance were Mags Molloy, Chairperson of the Dublin Spurs Supporters Club and Legend on the Bench Ireland Ambassador, along with members of the supporters’ club who attended to show their support for the initiative. Also present were Brian Staunton, Chairperson of PSLC, Quintin Moran, Chairperson of Portmarnock AFC, and Paddy Whyte, representing Portmarnock Tennis Club. The event was well attended by members of the wider community also.

Speaking at the launch, Legend on the Bench Ireland Ambassador Mags Molloy said she was proud that three benches have now been delivered in Ireland and encouraged attendees to support the installation of further benches nationwide.

Mags added:

“If you are looking for a charity to fundraise for, whether through marathons or other sponsored events, please consider fundraising for Legend on the Bench.”

Minister O’Brien also addressed those present, saying:

“Suicide is a subject that has touched the lives of so many people in our community and further afield. I am honoured and proud to cut the ribbon on this bench for Portmarnock, and I want to get the message out there that it is okay not to be okay. That’s why the motto on the bench is so important — there is always someone willing to listen when you are going through difficult times.”

Special thanks were extended to Derek Downes of Quinn Downes for installing the bench, and to the management of PSLC for providing refreshments to all attendees on the day.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Minister O’Brien for giving up his time in support of our charity; it is very much appreciated.

Thank you also to Mags Molloy and the Dublin Spurs Supporters Club for their continued support and fundraising efforts, which have enabled three Legend on the Bench benches to be installed in Ireland to date. Your commitment, effort and passion for our charity is truly amazing, we salute you. 💙💙💙

Each Legend Bench is a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can save lives. 💙🙏
