Legend on the Bench unveiled another Suicide Prevention Bench in Waterford, Ireland in Memory of Conor Cleare.
PASSAGE EAST, CO. WATERFORD July 5th. A poignant new chapter in the Legend on the Bench suicide prevention initiative was marked today with the unveiling of Ireland’s first dedicated Memory Bench in the picturesque village of Passage East, Co. Waterford.
While the Charity has already installed five suicide prevention benches across Ireland, today’s unveiling marks the first bench in Ireland dedicated specifically to remembering a loved one. The Bench was dedicated to and in memory of Conor Cleare. The Bench was sponsored by Conor’s family and friends, and was made possible because of the commitment, passion and drive of Conor’s sister Siobhan, who along with others played a massive part in getting this Bench over the line.

The unveiling was attended by a fantastic crowd of family, friends, supporters, and members of the local community, whose presence made the occasion even more meaningful. The overwhelming show of support for Conor and his family reflected the strength of a community united in remembrance, compassion, and hope. As those gathered looked out across the waters towards Hook Head and Crook Lighthouse, the new Memory Bench was unveiled not only as a tribute to Conor’s life but as a lasting reminder that no one should ever face their darkest moments alone.
Organisers expressed their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped make the project possible, particularly Conor’s family and friends, Openreach UK, Andy Devine, and the many supporters who continue to champion the initiative.

The unveiling represents another important milestone for Legend on the Bench, whose mission is to raise awareness of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention while creating safe, welcoming spaces where conversations can begin and no one feels they have to face life’s challenges alone. The initiative continues to expand, with Ireland’s sixth and seventh Suicide Prevention Benches due to be unveiled later this week, further strengthening the growing network of places dedicated to hope, connection, and community support, dedicated to saving lives.

As the Legend on the Bench movement grows, each bench stands as a powerful reminder that every conversation matters, every life matters, and that hope can often begin with a simple place to sit, reflect, and reach out. You are not alone.
And if I may say one thing, initiatives like Legend on the Bench leave a legacy that extends far beyond the day of an unveiling. Years from now, people who never knew Conor may sit on that bench, find a moment of peace, start a conversation, or decide to keep going for one more day. That’s a remarkable legacy for a community to help create. 💙
