Bench Reveals

Legend on the Bench…..”Sir Jimmy Greaves”

Today, the 19th of March 2026, will stay with us for a very long time.

Legend on the Bench had the profound honour of installing our 104th Suicide Prevention Bench, in memory of “Sir” Jimmy Greaves.

The sun shone brightly above us, as if the day itself understood the significance of what it held. It was a semi private gathering, but what it lacked in size, it made up for in heart, warmth, and deep, shared purpose.

To stand alongside the Greaves family was something truly humbling. Their strength, their grace, and their love for Jimmy could be felt in every moment.

The speeches were filled with sincerity and admiration. Yet even as the words were spoken, there was a quiet, collective feeling… that no sentence, no tribute, could ever fully measure the life of such an extraordinary man.

The most poignant speech of the day was made by former Spur Mark Falco who was a wonderful goalscorer too. I think it summed up what Jimmy meant to everyone, holding back the tears trying to explain how he wanted to be Jimmy, but how impossible it was, not just for him but for everyone, and then the tears came. Thank you Mark, one for attending, and one for showing how much Jimmy was loved. You’re a Star. 🌟

Then came the unveiling. As always, it stopped us in our tracks. In that moment, it was a gentle reminder that you are not alone and someone is always listening. It is more than a bench, it is a place of hope, a place to pause, a place that, in its quiet presence, may one day save a life.

And afterwards, the conversations began.

Stories of Jimmy, laughter, banter, fun, kindness, loving, caring were in abundance. A shared sense that we were all part of something far bigger than ourselves. To be present in those moments was not just special, it was deeply moving.

Jimmy’s legacy will never be defined by football alone, remarkable as it was. His true legacy now lives on through the brilliant work of the Jimmy Greaves Foundation, reaching and supporting people in the very moments support is required.

That is what today was really about. Remembrance, yes, but also hope, purpose, and the continuation of something that truly matters.

To everyone who stood with us today, thank you, your presence meant more than words can say, and helped make this day what it was.

Because Jimmy was more than special. He was someone who made people feel seen, valued, and understood. And if, in his name, this bench becomes a place where someone finds a moment of peace, a moment of strength, a reason to stay, then his legacy isn’t just living on……..

It’s quietly, powerfully, still changing lives.💙💙💙🙏
